A Long Time Coming

Well, just like writing in my journal, I am not very faithful at updating my blog! I can't even really remember what has happened in the last month. I do remember that last night Jenn and I went to see Wicked! That was the second time that I have seen it. It was amazing! That is definitely my favorite musical. If Stomp counts as a musical, it would be my second.

"Jenn and I after Wicked"

Last week we put on a play called, "Peggy The Pint-Size Pirate." We had our semi-annual membership meeting and needed to have something for entertainment. Last year they had a fashion show and, as Jenn would probably tell you, I don't know much about fashion anymore. Haha. I don't get it either...I used to be such a good dresser! I guess that in my "old age" I am forgetting how. Anyway, the play went well enough. We had to remind some of the participants of their lines many times, but people enjoyed it a lot. I am glad that it's over, as is most of my staff. I don't think that any of them enjoyed working during rehearsal time. Not that they should have much to complain about. It's not like their job is very difficult at all. On that note, anyone looking for a job? We're in the hiring process...

Saying all that, I have been reconsidering going in to special education. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy working with people that have disabilities, but the more I have thought about it and have worked in the field, the more I think that the pay does not justify it. Some day I am going to have to support a family. That's right...I said it. Some day I will be married and have a family. Crazy, I know! For years my mom, whom I love, has been suggesting that I go in to nursing. So, I am going to give that a go! I am going to start down the road of taking classes towards a nursing degree at Mesa Community College. Hopefully I'll be able to put in the time and do well enough to get accepted in to the program! The only problem is, when I get accepted in to the nursing program I am not going to have time to work. So right now I am researching some of the alternatives of having a normal full-time job. Like having an internet sales business. Everything is in the early stages right now though, so we'll see. As most of you that have known me for any length of time, everything is subject to change!

I recently watched, "The Express." It's set in the days before desegregation. It's about a black football player that had to overcome some discrimination. I think that it is absolutely ridiculous what people did back then. There is NO excuse for treating someone that is different from you so badly. It was a very good movie though. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's one of those feel good ones that is based on a true story. I enjoy those kind of movies a lot.

I have been reading more lately. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. I've read a few books. I think it started with "My Sister's Keeper" and then moved on to more thriller type books. Jenn read it and wanted to see the movie, so I figured that I might as well read it too. It was actually a really good book that brought up some interesting issues. Let me warn you though, the movie was not as good as the book. The had even changed some of the plot in the movie. The main thing that they changed was even a HUGE part of the book.

I'm in the advanced improv class now. We have 4 shows in 12 weeks! One every 3 weeks. It's pretty fast paced. I enjoy it, but not as much as the first class. I think that having more time to learn things helped us get to know each other better, and become more comfortable with each other. This new group of people is pretty interesting. It's a mix of a couple of quieter people, some show-offs, and some people that know what they're doing and are pretty good at it. It will be very interesting to see how the show goes this week!

Alright, I think that I have said enough for this entry! I'll catch you all later!

I don't know...

Since the reunion weekend not much has happened! The most exciting thing is that I had my first improv performance for my beginner's class. It was pretty fun! I would upload a video of it on to this, but there's already one on Facebook. Feel free to check it out if you haven't already! Here are a couple of pictures from the show...

1) This is a picture of my class!

2) The deacons from the Harris Ward came to enjoy the show.

The Jester'z also came and performed for The Arc last week. It was a lot of fun. The ideas that they gave to the Jester'z were hilarious! When asked for a madeup product, they yelled, "makeup!" and then "makeup for dogs!" The next product was, "makeup for cats!" When asked to suggest a place that they would never go on vacation, the said places like Newark, NJ or Delaware. Haha...cracks me up. Here are some pictures from that show...

3)Dragging a "pig"...

4)Hitch-hiking

We all had a great time at the show. Work has been going pretty well. There are times when I feel a little overwhelmed and under-qualified, but I get through it. My favorite part is definitely after the participants get there. I need to take a long vacation though. Go somewhere new, somewhere I've never been before...and for more than 2-3 days. That would be nice and rejuvenating!
Jenn has been in California all week. The last time I saw her was for a short time before and after my show last week. I miss her! I will get to see her Saturday, or Sunday though. I can't wait!
That's about all I have to say right now. Catch ya later!!

Blast From The Past

So here I am, sitting in at my parent's house in Iowa and waiting for my 10 year high school reunion to happen. I've been helping get the reunion together for a couple of months now. I haven't done much, just collecting money and making sure the proper people get paid! There was a pre-reunion bash last night at some bar called Tonic. It was pretty fun. I think that the most fun part was seeing my sister, Ruth, and her boyfriend, Tim. I haven't seen her in a while.
Since I have been here I have just been running around getting ready for the reunion and looking for lost things of mine in my parent's basement. I found letter and papers from my mission and old pictures!! I'm looking forward to looking through them and showing them to Jenn. I also found my old yearbooks that she'll get to look through and laugh at, I'm sure.
I am on a short break from school right now. It starts up again at the beginning of June. I'm taking 2 classes the first half of the summer and 1 the second. Great fun!
That's it for now! I promise to put pictures of the reunion and Iowa up on my next blog entry...

The First of What Could Be Many

Hello everyone, or just the one person, reading this! How are you? Seeing as how I'm going to have some more free time on my hands this summer than I did during the school year, I'm going to write all about what's going on in my life! Aren't you lucky!?
Right now I am trying to get rid of pink eye. I've been fighting with it, on and off, for about 2 months now. Ridiculous! That's all there is to it. I've been reduced to putting cotton balls, that are soaked in boiled salt water, on my eyelids for 5 minutes. Fun stuff! I was reading that fresh breast milk works wonders, but I don't have any of that so I am stuck with cotton balls drenched in salt water.
I have braces now! They are a pain in my booty. I tried the Invisalign thing. I wasn't very good at wearing them consistently and so I decided to go with something I have to keep on. They're supposed to be on for a year but I hear that they tell people a shorter time frame than what it really takes. So we'll see!
I've been Program Director at The Arc of Tempe for about 7 months now. It's been a fun, interesting, stressful experience! Overall, it's been great though. I love my job! I get paid to play, teach life-skills, and work with some great people. You should check out our website! It's, www.tempearc.org.
That's all for now! I'll write more later this week, probably.
